Duchman Family Dolcetto helps Texas to beat New York in Grape & Gridiron Classic
The Duchman Family 2008 Dolcetto was just one of the 8 Texas wines that helped to rack up the winning score (8 to 3) in the 2010 Grape and Gridiron Classic held yesterday at the El Centro College Food and Hospitality Institute in Dallas.
The competition was inspired by yesterday’s Cowboys-Giants game where the home team didn’t fare as well (final 41-35), pitting Texas vs. New York wines in a blind tasting.
That’s the author of Vintage Texas, top Texas wine blogger Russ Kane (right), who sat as one the judges.
Check out Russ’s post today on the event, as well as this post at the D Magazine blog, where the editors clearly relished the clear-cut victory with the title “Texas Trounces New York in Monday Night’s Grape & Gridiron Face Off.”

Notice the size of the bottle of Texas wine and the glass in the photo. Everything’s bigger and better here in Texas…no doubt about it.
More seriously, it was a great and fun-filled event. My job was made easier with wines like the Duchman Dolcetto to pick from.
We really had a hard time picking just eleven wines to represent the whole state of Texas in the Grape and Gridiron event. That’s why we came up with the honorable mentioned in the Special Teams wine list.
