Four Seasons Los Colinas Resort, Irving – On the evening of August 15th, Bill Elsey, Director of Sales for Duchman Family Winery & D’Amore Wine Selections was named “Texas Best Sommelier” 2011, during the Texas Sommelier Conference. The annual TexSom conference, now in it’s 7th year, is also host of the Texas Best Sommelier Competition, a 3-part examination administered by a panel of Master Sommeliers, which tests candidates in the areas of Wine Theory, Practical Wine Service, and a timed Blind Tasting of four wines. Hosting more than 400 wine professionals from around the country, TexSom is one of the largest gatherings of wine service professionals in the United States. Seminars and tastings are led by Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, and other leading producers, sommeliers and restauranteurs from around the world.
Bill competed against 20 other Sommeliers from throughout Texas and was announced as Texas Best Sommelier during the culminating Grand Tasting Ceremony on Monday evening. When asked about the competition, “I am truly humbled and honored to have been recognized as Texas Best Sommelier for 2011. It’s a privilege not only to have the opportunity to participate in the competition and seminars, but also to be apart of a truly one of a kind educational and communal wine conference like TexSom.” says Bill.
As a member of the Duchman Family Winery’s team since inception in 2006, we are very proud to have witnessed the progress of Bill’s wine knowledge throughout the years!
